The University Church Community Health Workers Help Make Connections

chw_bookbag-haircut-event_group_elegant-beauty_august-2016August 13, 2016 was an exciting day as members of the community from the Norwich and Byrneport apartments boarded The University Church’s mini-bus to participate in the activities awaiting them at Tiffany McMorr’s salon, “Elegant Beauty.” Many families in our community needed support preparing their children for the 2016-2017 school year and Victoria Webb, Community Health Worker at TUC, decided to arrange this neighborhood outing.

The kids enjoyed playing in the bouncy house, having their faces painted, playing with customized balloons created by Happy the Clown, making colorful bead jewelry, and playing basketball. The smiles on the children’s faces spoke volumes when they received their free book bags. McGruff the Crime Dog was in attendance promoting community safety. Tiffany McMorr provided haircuts for the children and plenty of refreshments for all the participants.

We especially want to thank Sam Lewis, TUC’s volunteer mini-bus driver, without him this trip would have been impossible. After the event, Sam was asked, “How was it?” He stated, “It was wonderful because I had fun watching the children have fun.”
