Global Missions
.

If you are interested in changing our world for the better then The University Church is the place for you.

Since inception, we have made a commitment to reach out across the globe in mission and service. We have an ongoing relationship with the Kafakumba Development Project in northern Zambia and groups from The University Church travel there to work in such areas as HIV/AIDS education and prevention, theological education, woman’s issues, and economic development.
.
Our work in HIV/AIDS education and prevention has been recognized and supported by the Global AIDS Fund. When we travel abroad we are always careful to make sure that we work with our local partners in ways that are constructive and beneficial. For example, we would never take a construction team to Zambia because that would simply take jobs away from the local people and would actually result in the construction project costing more money than if we had simply stayed at home! Our approach is to ask what sort of skills would be helpful and then try to find people with those skills. You can get a taste of Kafakumba and some of our experiences there from our photo essays:

A typical day at the Kafakumba Training Center in Zambia begins with worship. As few people have clocks or watches, it is the drums that call everyone to worship first thing every morning. Here are some friends calling everyone to morning worship:

The University Church has a close relationship with SewHope, a nonprofit organization with a focus on strengthening and empowering Guatemala with health, education and opportunity. Our founding pastor, Julian Davies, serves on the Board of SewHope and members of the church family have participated in mission trips to the Peten region of Guatemala. The organization works to implement the United Nations Millennium Development Goals in local villages such that models for development are established in this impoverished area.

We are interested in finding mission partners in other parts of the world who see global missions the same way we do and who are interested in developing long-term, meaningful relationships.
