Community Garden Initiative September 2016 Update

Community Garden September 2016

August was a great month here in the Community Garden. The Ohio Sustainable Farms Tour honored the Community Garden by including us on their farm tour, we held our annual Veggie Trails 5k with much success, and at the end of August we marked a major milestone by surpassing 2015’s total produce distribution of 10,000 pounds.

For the next few Sundays we will continue our “give as you can” VeggieTable produce stand following the worship gatherings at The University Church. We will be outdoors and open to the public, weather permitting, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. Veggie lovers are welcome to take what they like and in return: volunteer for any amount of time that day from 10:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., donate money, or volunteer with any of our other outreach efforts, including signing up for a future date. All the money raised at the VeggieTable goes to support TUC Garden programs like produce gleaning and distributions.

Join us for a fresh set of health and gardening workshops. Our Fall Herbal Series will meet on Saturdays September 24, October 22, and November 12, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. With a suggested donation of $10 per workshop, you can experience topics such as winter health, salve making, and soap making.

The University Church Community Garden Director, Scott Delaney, will be a speaker at this year’s TEDx Toledo. Come out and experience TEDx on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Toledo Museum of Art Glass Pavilion (2445 Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio 43620).
