We are so excited to announce that Rogers LEAD student, Yvonne Riley, won third prize in the youth category at the April 19, 2018 Ode To The Zip Code event. This annual poetry competition is put on by the Toledo City Paper, in partnership with the Fair Housing Center, the Arts Commission, and the Toledo Lucas County Public Library. Toledo-area residents submitted poems based on their zip codes. The number of words on each line is dictated by their corresponding zip code.
Yvonne is member of the Rogers LEAD writing workshop group. Although the group was not formed with the purpose of winning awards and accolades, this recognition is encouraging and exciting for everyone involved. Here is Yvonne’s poem.
