
The University Church is seeking a visionary Community Garden Director who is excited about focusing the potential of our garden program in to a powerful force for good in the fight against food insecurity. This full-time, year-round position will lead and manage The University Church Garden (TUC Garden) and associated programs. The mission of TUC Garden is to grow food, grow awareness, and grow compassion.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop, and implement planting, cultivation, and harvesting.
- Direct and manage the CSA (community supported agriculture) program, including training and overseeing volunteers.
- Facilitate accurate record keeping.
- Develop and implement a site-plan for the grounds and garden.
- Ensure that the garden and grounds are clean, safe, and inviting.
- Manage the greenhouses, hoop houses, orchard, beehives, composting areas, and irrigation systems.
- Develop clear goals for the garden; including financial, food production, environmental stewardship, and volunteer development elements.
- Maintain prompt and effective communication and create a stronger online presence.
- Offer educational workshop opportunities to the community.
- Participate in and support the larger urban farming community through networking, partnerships, and community advocacy.
- Participate in fundraising opportunities.
- Provide direct supervision, training, and daily management for all TUC Garden staff, including regular volunteers, VISTA members, seasonal workers, and interns
- Recruit, train, schedule, and manage teams of volunteers from the Community Garden and The University Church.
Successful Applicants Will Have:
- A minimum 2 years of applicable agricultural experience.
- Proven organizational and leadership skills with an emphasis in project management, goal setting, and vision casting.
- Supervisory experience and the ability to relate to diverse individuals.
- The ability to think creatively, learn new skills, and adapt to change.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The drive to work independently, efficiently, and with integrity.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
- Stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, reach, kneel, and squat.
- Use one’s hands for both fine and gross motor skills.
- See details of objects that are close-up as well as at a distance.
- Understand the speech of another person and speak clearly so listeners can understand.
- Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects.
- Be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
- Work outside in extreme conditions and in an environment that may be loud.

Salary and Benefits:
- Salary – $2,000 per month
- Paid vacation and personal time, annual $1,000 bonus after first year.
